About the IOC
Indian Ocean Commission
The IOC (Indian Ocean Commission) is an intergovernmental organization and the only regional organization in Africa composed exclusively of island nations. It brings together five member states: the Union of Comoros, France (through Réunion), Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles. The IOC defends the specificities of its member states on the continental and international stages and implements cooperation projects in numerous fields: ecosystem preservation, sustainable management of natural resources, maritime security, entrepreneurship, public health, renewable energy, and culture. The action of the Indian Ocean Commission is structured around a Strategic Development Plan 2023-2033, adopted by the 37th Council of Ministers in May 2023. This plan, focused on regional public goods, is entitled "Indian Ocean Shared" and is divided into four strategic axes:
- A resilient, peaceful, and secure Indian Ocean;
- A sustainable economic growth Indian Ocean;
- A human flourishing Indian Ocean;
- A strengthened institutional and partnership architecture.
